Pricing
What does tree removal cost in Clearwater, FL?
Tree removal in Clearwater typically runs $300–$3,500 depending on size, species, and access. Small trees under 30 feet usually cost $300–$800; medium trees 30–60 feet run $800–$1,800; and large 60+ foot oaks or pines run $1,800–$3,500 or more if crane access is required. Most residential jobs land in the $600–$1,500 range.
How much does tree trimming cost in Pinellas County?
Tree trimming in Pinellas County typically runs $200–$1,200 depending on tree size and scope. Small trees and palms run $200–$400; medium oaks and laurel oaks $400–$800; large mature trees with structural pruning $800–$1,200 or more. Multi-tree pricing on a single visit drops the per-tree cost significantly.
Why do quotes vary so much between tree companies?
Three reasons. First: insurance and licensing — uninsured operators can quote 30–50% lower because they're not paying the same business costs. Second: equipment access — companies with crane partnerships can do oversized removals more safely but at higher cost. Third: cleanup scope — some quotes leave you with brush piles to dispose of yourself. We always quote with full insurance, full equipment access, and full cleanup included so you can compare apples to apples.
Do you charge for estimates?
No — every estimate is free and on-site. We come to your property, walk the work, measure the trees, and write the quote on the spot. No phone-only quotes, no high-pressure sales calls afterward, no obligation to move forward.
Scheduling
How quickly can you come out for a quote?
Most quotes get scheduled within 1–3 business days of your call. Same-day quotes are common for Clearwater-area properties when our route lines up. After-hours and weekend quotes are available for emergency situations — owner Jason Gold takes those calls personally.
How far in advance should I schedule trimming?
For routine trimming, 1–2 weeks lead time is typical and sometimes we have same-week availability. For hurricane-prep crown thinning, we recommend booking by mid-May before the June 1st storm season starts — late May and June book up fast as homeowners scramble after the first watch goes out.
What's your typical response time across Pinellas County?
Routine quote response: same-week for most addresses. Emergency response: 1–2 hours for tree-on-structure calls anywhere in the county, faster (under 60 minutes) for Clearwater proper, 60–90 minutes for Largo and Belleair, 90–120 minutes for Tarpon Springs and Oldsmar. Owner Jason answers after-hours calls personally.
Services
What's the difference between tree trimming and tree pruning?
In practice they overlap. Trimming usually refers to shaping, thinning, or clearance work for aesthetics or to clear roofs and lines. Pruning is the broader term that includes structural cuts, deadwooding, and corrective work that influences how the tree grows long-term. Most jobs are a mix of both — we work to ANSI A300 industry standards on every cut.
Do you handle palm trees?
Yes. We trim palms across all 15 Pinellas cities — sabal palm, coconut palm, queen palm, and ornamental species. The right approach is removing only dead and yellowing fronds plus the seed pods. We do not over-trim palms with the so-called "9-to-3 hurricane cut" that strips green fronds — that practice weakens the tree by removing photosynthetic tissue.
Can you remove a tree close to my house or pool?
Yes — tight-access removals are one of our specialties. Climbers handle backyard trees that bucket trucks can't reach. For trees over a roofline or pool cage, we use crane support so no section is rigged down over an occupied structure. Every section is lowered in a controlled descent, never free-falling.
Do you do stump grinding after removal?
Yes — stump grinding is the most common add-on to a removal. It's almost always cheaper to bundle with the original job since the equipment is already on site. We grind 6–12 inches below grade so you can sod, hardscape, or replant clean. Pricing typically runs $100–$500 per stump depending on diameter.
Insurance
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes — Tree Impressions of Florida Environmental Services LLC is a fully licensed Florida company carrying general liability and workers' compensation insurance on the entire crew. We can email or hand-deliver a current certificate of insurance before any job begins, and we recommend asking any tree company for the same before they touch your property.
Will my homeowner's insurance cover storm damage tree removal?
In most cases, yes — if a tree falls on a covered structure like your home, garage, fence, or shed, your policy typically covers removal up to a per-tree limit (commonly $500–$1,000) and a total cap around $5,000–$10,000. Trees that fall in your yard without hitting a structure are usually not covered. We document damage with photos and itemized invoices to help your claim move smoothly.
What kind of insurance documentation can you provide?
For storm jobs we provide timestamped before-and-after photos, itemized invoices in the format insurance adjusters expect, and clear scope-of-work language. We can speak directly with your carrier if it helps the claim move. For commercial work and HOAs we also provide W-9 and current COI documentation in the formats your accounting team requires.
Permits
Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Clearwater?
Most Pinellas County municipalities — including Clearwater, St. Petersburg, Dunedin, Safety Harbor, Belleair, and Gulfport — regulate removal of trees above defined trunk-diameter thresholds and protected species (like live oak). Dead, diseased, or hazardous trees often qualify for emergency exemptions. We're familiar with the local rules and walk you through what's needed before any cutting begins.
Will you handle the permit application?
Yes — permitting is part of the service. When a regulated tree is part of the job we file the application, document the tree's condition, and don't start cutting until the permit is in hand. There's no separate permitting fee — it's included in the quote when applicable.
Emergency
What counts as a tree emergency?
Tree on an occupied structure, tree on a vehicle in a covered carport, tree blocking the only driveway access, tree leaning visibly more than it was yesterday, branches or trunks tangled with power lines (call your utility first — never approach a downed line), and any tree that has partially fallen and is hung up in another tree. Those situations warrant the 24/7 line. Yard cleanup of branches that came down without hitting anything can wait until normal hours.
How fast can you respond to an emergency call?
For genuine emergencies — tree on a home, on a vehicle, blocking the only driveway — we aim for 1–2 hours on most days. Clearwater proper often gets sub-60-minute response. During active hurricane conditions we wait for sustained winds to drop below 35 mph for crew safety, then dispatch in priority order. Owner Jason takes after-hours calls personally.
What if a tree falls during a hurricane and we can't reach you immediately?
Hurricanes overwhelm phone lines and we sometimes lose tower coverage for hours. If you can't get through, leave a voicemail and a text message at (727) 263-9291 — both will queue and we triage as soon as conditions allow. Stay safe inside until the storm passes; do not approach a fallen tree to inspect it. We start dispatching the moment winds drop, with occupied-structure emergencies first.
