Bulk mulch, delivered and installed

Tree Impressions of Florida Environmental Services LLC delivers bulk mulch across Pinellas County for $35 to $70 per cubic yard, with installation labor available on the same visit. Whether you need three yards refreshed in your front beds or thirty yards spread across a commercial property, we deliver and install with the same care we bring to tree work.

More important than which color mulch you pick: how thick you apply it and how close you push it to the trunk. Get those wrong and mulch goes from tree-helper to tree-killer in one season. Below is what we offer, what we recommend, and the volcano-mulching warning every Florida homeowner needs to hear.

What's Available

Mulch types and when to use each

Natural double-shredded hardwood — our most-recommended option. Decomposes into useful soil organic matter, holds color reasonably well, and is the best balance of cost, longevity, and tree benefit. $35–$45/yd.
Pine bark — slightly longer-lasting than shredded hardwood, good for slope retention because the chunky pieces interlock. $40–$50/yd.
Cypress mulch — durable but slow to decompose; widely available but environmentally questionable when sourced from Florida's wetland cypress forests. $40–$55/yd.
Dyed mulches (red, brown, black) — aesthetic. Don't add as much soil benefit because the dye slows decomposition, but hold color noticeably longer between refreshes. $50–$70/yd.

For most Pinellas County yards, natural shredded hardwood is the best choice. We'll honestly recommend cheaper material if it's the right fit for your beds.

Cost & Common Questions

How much does mulch cost in Clearwater?

Natural hardwood / pine bark: $35–$45 per yard delivered.
Cypress: $40–$55 per yard delivered.
Premium dyed mulch: $50–$70 per yard delivered.
Installation labor: $50–$100 per yard depending on access (wheelbarrow vs. driveway-adjacent).

Most jobs have a 3-yard delivery minimum. Below that, the bagged-mulch retail option from a garden center is usually cheaper per cubic foot.

How thick should mulch be applied?

Apply 2–3 inches deep — no more. Thicker applications create anaerobic zones underneath that suffocate fine surface roots and can promote fungal disease. If your existing mulch is already 2 inches deep, you usually only need 1 inch of new material to refresh the look. Over-mulching wastes money and harms plants.

What is volcano mulching and why is it bad?

Volcano mulching is the practice of piling mulch in a steep cone against the trunk of a tree — common because it looks "neat." It's one of the most damaging things you can do to a tree. Mulch against bark holds moisture against the trunk, invites pests like termites and ants, and creates an environment where fungal rot can establish. Always pull mulch back 4–6 inches from the trunk, leaving the root flare visible. We never volcano-mulch on installs.

FAQ

Mulch questions we hear most

How much mulch do I need?

Calculate square footage of beds (length × width), then divide by 162 for a 2-inch application — that gives cubic yards. So a 200 sq ft bed at 2 inches deep needs about 1.2 yards. We can measure during the quote and recommend the right volume so you don't pay for excess.

When is the best time to mulch in Florida?

Spring (March–May) is the ideal window — beds get refreshed before summer heat and mulch is in place to retain moisture during the hot months. Fall is the second-best window. Avoid mulching during peak summer (July–August) because the fresh mulch tends to mat and trap heat against newly exposed soil.

Will fresh mulch attract termites?

Properly applied mulch (2–3 inches, pulled back from foundations and tree trunks) doesn't significantly increase termite risk. The risk comes from volcano mulching against trunks or piling mulch against your home's foundation. Keep mulch at least 12 inches from the foundation slab and you're fine.
